Cordycep: Supplements For Energy And Health

What Are Cordyceps?

Cordyceps are this amazing fungus that grows on bugs. They can be found around the world, but are most associated with eastern medicine. It’s been used in Chinese traditional medicine for over a thousand years.

I had recently stumbled upon cordyceps when I had found a video by William Padilla-Brown. He was discussing his cultivation of cordyceps. From my impression, William was the first person to cultivate Cordyceps within the United States.

He discribes himself as a “citizen scientist” who loves exploring the science of mushrooms, fungus, an algea. I personally give William Padilla-Brown the credit for helping Cordyceps become as widely accepted as an effective suppliment as they’re becoming.

Why Are Cordyceps A Supplement You Should Try?

You will rarely see me support or recommend any supplements. In this case, I only do this because I personally saw the effects of this fungus first-hand. I can’t say I’ve ever taken a supplement that made me noticeably feel better the way cordyceps did.

Here’s what I’ve learned about cordyceps that has me promoting it with you…

I’m going to explain this in the most non-nerdy way I can and from my non-scientific understanding.

When your muscles need oxygen they produce a molecule called adenosine triphosphate (ATP). This molecule helps several functions on the cellular level, from increasing oxygen supply to improving endurance. From personal experience, it just seems to make the body function better. When I was recovering from Covid; I tried Cordyceps and it helped me recover fast. I honestly felt like I would of taken a lot longer to recover had I not used it. My lungs were noticeably improved within days and within a week my energy levels were through the roof. Cordyceps militaris is especially effective for anyone needing their respiratory system to function better. Especially athletes.

When your body can process oxygen better and produce more energy, you’re naturally going to feel better. If you’d like to read more about the science of this and how it directly helps with Covid-19, here is an NIH article for you to read!

The Zombie Fungus And Why It Can’t Infect Humans

In nature, the cordycep fungus gets into a host bug and turns the bug into a “zombie”. In the hemilian mountains, this is usually a caterpillar This has given the cordycep fungus the nickname Zombie Fungus. Even so, do worry because cordyceps cannot infect humans.

During the fruiting stage, the cordycep spores can’t survive temperatures much higher than 70 degrees. Since humans are warm blooded creatures, our temperature is on average 98.4 degrees; making us way too hot for this fungus to survive.

The show This Is Us can’t happen if you understand the cordyceps growth cycle. So don’t stress it and enjoy!

Cordyceps And Lung Cancer

Cordyceps produce several compounds that seem to be very useful for health and fighting disease. One of those is Cordycepin. That’s the image of the molecule to your left. This important compound has shown to have a cytotoxic (“Cyto” means cell and “toxic” means poison) effect on A549 human lung cancer cells. Here is an article from a Turkish medical journal covering the topic if you’d like to do deeper research into this topic.

It appears cordycepin is also cytotoxic towards leukemic cell in vitro and it has anti-cancer effects on renal, colon, and breast cancer.

My Conclusion

There are few supplements that I know of that have the same level of benefits as cordyceps. By improving oxygen transport, energy levels, and fighting cancer, I think you’d have to agree with me that Cordyceps should have a place in your diet.

I personally plan to grow cordyceps as a business because I believe in it so much. I think the science of breeding different strains, the challenge of raising a fungus in a sterile environment, and ending with a healthy product that others value is exciting goal. In the meantime, I plan to find a reputable supplier and offer my own line of cordycep supplements under the brand CordycepsRx.com.

I will cover more on this topic in other articles as I explore the topic. Some of the cancer fighting properties are exciting and it would be fun to eventually find an expert to interview on the topic. You have my promise to never offer a supplement or any other product for that matter that I don’t truly believe in. Since most of us need more energy and all of us need more cancer fighting agents on our side, I feel I’m just scratching the surface of why you should care about Cordyceps.

As part of Life Lived Free, I’m building partner websites to compliment various topics. To cover Cordyceps, I have built CordycepsRx.com and we’re currently signing people up for an Email News Club for people as serious as I am about cordyceps. See you there! Just click on the image below!
