Simple Arched Framed Buildings Can Be Used For Homes, Workshops, Or Greenhouses

Arched Buildings
I stumbled on to this design by accident. I was looking for a cheap way to build a home. This design of building is extremely interesting when you take into account the amount of space you get for investment. It’s also a really fast building method. In most cases you can build an arch building for a few thousand dollars. When you compare that to the fact that most low end RV’s are about the same price, it’s hard to beat.
Gothic Arched Wood Framed Greenhouse
If you need a greenhouse, you have a lot of options. Most will fall into two category: expensive framed greenhouses or affordable flimsy greenhouses. The expensive ones are out of the reach of most people reading this. These are the kind you see being used by million dollar homes or commercial agricultural facilities.
The flimsy greenhouses are usually made with PVC or some similar type of material. They are suitable for short term use in mild climates. Many of these designs will collapse in heavy winds.
A great middle ground is the arched greenhouse. They will cost you more than a cheap PVC design and less than a commercial design. You can build one for about $1,5000 (give or take) depending on how big you are planning to build.
Gothic Arched Framed Cabins
It’s amazing, but a cabin can be built using using this technique within a week or less. The simple frames can be so easily assembled and erected so that one person can do almost everything themselves. Thin plywood panels can be used for the sub-roof and the use of asphalt roofing shingles will complete your roof. You can build these as big or long as you want. The inside walls can be stuffed with insulation if you live in a cold climate. If you live in a more mild climate, you can skip the insulation and leave the arched frames exposed.
This design originated from boat building and that’s pretty easy to see when you look at one of these cabins. This structure could be used for a variety of purposes. You could build a home quickly if you’re low on money and time. Need a workshop? You could even build your own campground or use them for short-term vacation rentals. The possiblities are only limited by your imagination.
Because your roof and walls are both the same, you get the same advantages as an A-frame, but with more room due to the arched/bowed walls. This also limits the amount of lumber needed. With lumber prices flucuating and inflation creeping in, keeping your building expenses low is a smart decision. I don’t believe you give up function or beauty with these gothic arched framed cabins.
Arched Buildings For Garages And Large Projects
These frames lend themselves to create very large open spaces without support beams. I’ve seen them used for building boats. In fact, one gentleman I was watching used gothic arches and plastic to build his shelter that he used to protect his boat project. During that period, a hurricane came through his area and he experienced winds upwards of 100mph. His structure swayed and bowed, but held up just fine. The shapes are strong and realatively areodynamic. They can bend and give without collapsing.
I’ve also seen these designs used as barns or storage sheds for large tractors and boats. If you need to get your new Kubota or John Deere out of the rain and elements, this could give you the height you need without the support beams blocking your access. These really are amazing structures that don’t require a lot of skill to build.
The Hardest Part Of Building Your Own Gothic Arched Building
The biggest issue is figuring out the math and building a jig that suits the design you plan to build. Instead of me trying to reinvent the wheel, here’s a video showing you how to do it!
